Why Teaching Assistants Love Their Work

In the modern world, finding a satisfying job can be difficult. Many people look at teaching as a career, because they can see that it is a very rewarding job. However, most are put off when they realise the level of training that is required. For those people becoming a teaching assistant is often a good alternative.

The biggest benefit of becoming a teaching assistant is the feeling of achievement you will get from your work. On virtually a daily basis, you will experience the joy of helping a child to grasp something that they have been struggling with. You will then see the progress they make armed with that new skill.

Very few other jobs offer the variety being a teaching assistant does. Every day is different; you will help to prepare and deliver coursework and will work with hundreds of children from different backgrounds during your career. You get to go on school trips, help with special school events such as sports day and learn about new teaching methods.

If you have your own children, the benefits of becoming a teaching assistant are multiplied. You do not have to work during the school holidays, so can be there for your own children. In addition, you only work during the school day, so once again you are there for your children at the end of the school day. You will save money on childcare and if you work at the school your child attends, you will save on the school run. The savings come in the form of time and money in the form of the petrol money you do not need to spend.

Once you have been working as a teaching assistant for a few months you will know if teaching is for you. Should you decide to train as a teacher your experience as a teaching assistant will prove invaluable. You will already have experience of working with children and understand the national curriculum and the day-to-day running of a school.

Teaching assistants get long holidays and a short working day. They do not normally get involved in pre or after school activities and do not have any work to do during the school holidays, so is a great job if you have other hobbies or commitments that you want to spend time on.
