White And Colored Nursing Uniforms
Some nursing uniforms are sparkling white while some are colored. Sparkling white nursing garbs and the colorful ones perform the same roles. Some nurses prefer colored tunics and others white tunics. Some like sparkling white pants others have a liking for navy blue pants.
It is easy to assume that garbs for nurses have been white since time immemorial. In fact, the dresses which were worn by nurses in the earlier days used to be dark gray dresses. These dresses used to be covered with white aprons.
The grey dress was a favorite of Florence Nightingale. Every nurse in the world knows who this eminent person is. Some scholars consider Nightingale to be the mother of nursing. This nurse features in a number of books some of which contain medical information and some which contain historic information. Most historians have lauded the role Nightingale played in saving lives during Crimean war.
Later, white dresses and aprons became the fad and they overshadowed the traditional grey dresses. Aprons used by doctors and nurses are not the only ones that are white. Aprons used by engineers, lab technicians and chefs among other professionals are also white. A nurse with a sparkling white dress not only looks professional but she also looks hygienic and clean. A person who is helping patients to recover from conditions caused by germs should not only look hygienic but should also be hygienic and very clean.
A nurse with colored pants or dress will not be said to be unhygienic just because of the color of her dress. As long as the dress or the pants in question is very clean, one will be considered to be hygienic irrespective of the pant’s color. Colored nursing garbs are in fact the fad in the present day world. Some hospitals however stick to the white ones due to a number of reasons. One of the reasons is that the white ones make nurses to stand out therefore to be easily identified by patients.
Not everyone is a fanatic of white attire just as not everyone likes full dresses. Long dress will impress some nurses while some will be impressed by comfortable pants. Dresses, aprons and pants made for medical personnel are made using light weight material that is easy to wash. The dressing code of a hospital or clinic should be followed when working in the medical facility as a nurse. In some clinics, the dressing code stipulates that blue dresses are the order of the day.
The popularity of long nursing dresses faded with the progression of time. As society changed, nurses preferred pants over dresses. However, white aprons have been used since time immemorial.
