What are some tips and strategies on how I can populate my Yahoo Group?

You could try to have the link put on other sites, not other Yahoo groups but commercial sites with whom you could reciprocate and share a common interest. Post messages periodically asking your members to send the link to their friends inviting them to join. It takes time, My main group now has had almost 16,000 posts and more than 2,500 members but it was started in January 2,000, eight years ago. Good luck.
