Many companies allow a little personal time on the internet. However you should keep it to a minimum as you are getting paid to complete a job and not check your personal emails.

Additionally, many companies have policies regarding sending off-colored jokes through work email and to co-workers. Doing so could break their company sexual harassment policies. Use the Internet Wisely Even when you have determined that your company does not have a strict internet policy it does not mean you should be using the internet inappropriately.

Wherever you visit on the Internet, you leave an imprint that can be tracked. Most companies also have software to track their employees Internet usage, including websites visited and personal emails sent. It would be wise to assume that any email you sent from work may been seen by someone other then the person you are sending it to. To sum up, it is important to remember that you can be putting your job at risk with inappropriate Internet usage and email forwarding.

Keep in mind that just because you have not been advised that you are being monitored while on the computer does not mean that you are not being monitored.
