How To Determine The Best Water Filter For Your Needs ?

In most of the homes, tap water comes from well water or municipal water supply. You might think that this water is pure for drinking purpose but in actual it is not like that. This water is tested to contain coliform bacteria, parasite cysts, sediment particles and list of other pollutants. If these pollutants are present in your drinking water then it makes the drinking water unsafe for drinking. Therefore, make a habit of filtering water before drinking it or using it for cooking food etc.

Different types of water filters are efficient in removing different types of impurities. Most popular water filters available in market are faucet mounted water filters, undersink water filters, counter top water filters, reverse-osmosis water filters, activated carbon water filters and whole house water filters. Choose one according to the impurities present in water coming into your house.

Faucet mounted water filters are small in size and do not take much space in your kitchen. They can easily take out chlorine, sediment, rust from water and also improves the water taste. For fixing this water filter in your kitchen, you don’t need to call a plumber and you can get it in $20-$70.

The advantage of whole house water filters is that they address the needs of the entire home. They are ideal for removing rust, sedimentary particles and even chlorine from tap water. However they typically do not effectively address other pollutants such as metals, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), parasite cysts and coliform bacteria.

The installation of this type of water filter is not very easy as it is installed along with the main water supply line in the house. Normally this water filter can be obtained in $40 to $1000 but if you will go with a small size water filter then you can get it in $50 and $100.

Reverse-Osmosis water filters can effectively clean water and eliminates most of the pollutant present in water to make it safe for drinking. Most of the impurities present in water such as arsenic, cysts, heavy metals, rust, Chlorine, Sodium and dissolved solids are removed by use of this filter. Installation of this filter is not easy and requires a plumber for the same. For obtaining this type of water filter, you need to spend $200-$600 which is quite high as compared to other water filters present in market.

Undersink water filters are great for producing a large volume of water and eliminating rust, sediment, taste and odor issues. However they take up kitchen cabinet space and require modifications to the plumbing system and the kitchen countertop. Prices range from $30 to $400 for an undersink water filter.

Therefore, it is suggested to first find out the impurities present in water and then take a filter that can remove those impurities out of water completely.
