Cover Florida Access Health Insurance Available On Jan 5, 2009
In just a few weeks, on January 5, 2009 Floridians will have something to celebrate. The Cover Florida Health Care Program goes into effect on that day and citizens will be able to purchase health insurance. Governor Christ signed the bill in May of 2008, and it does, however, have some restrictions.
The plans will be exempt from some state mandated regulations, and may also limit other services such as hospital stays. Governor Christ has stated that his main goal in getting this bill passed was to provide access to those who wouldn’t otherwise get it at lowered premiums.
It has been reported that there are six insurers who’ve signed on and agreed to provide 25 different plans to the citizens, and that the average plan premium will be approximately $155 per month. Christ stated that the plan was all about helping people and giving them freedom and choices regarding their health care, where they didn’t have it before.
It is said the plan is an effort to begin focusing on health care instead of sickness care. And as a result, there will be higher deductibles, with a family catastrophic plan requiring a $3000 deductible. Nonetheless, this is a positive step for many.
The Cover Florida Health Care Program will be good news to over 3 million Floridians who otherwise would be unable to find insurance under any plan. Pre-existing conditions will not be a factor in who is accepted for coverage. All residents between 19 and 64 are eligible, providing they have not been covered by any insurance plan for the prior six month.
