any job search tips that would help me?
preityj asked:
I am going to complete my Ugrad degree in Economics with 2 minors in Pol Sci and Mathematics. I’ve been having a hard time in finding a decent job despite my skills. Im looking for jobs in the field of Finance- Securities/ Investment Firms, Brokerage Firms, Etc. My GPA is not top notch- a 3.37, but it’s not bad either. I’ve had several interviews so far and although i’ve heard back from some companies, those were the jobs that i did not really want. I’ve worked in a Law Firm before and i’ve also worked as a teaching Assistant/ tutor for elementary/ middle school kids. Is there any way that I can make myself more marketable? Any tips for job interviews/ job search?

We are entering a recession and the job market will be really bad for at least a year, so if you can stay in school. If not take what you can get. My daughter, who had qualifications similar to yours, graduated during the 1991 recession and only 3 people she knew got a job before graduation and she did not get a good job for almost a year. She send out hundreds of resumes but got no job offers until the economy improved and then she got 4 in one week. If is discouraging to look for a job in a bad economy, but keep in mind that it is not you, and every job has a hundred applicants.
1. First of all do what you enjoy. Trust me, doing this ensures better job prospects and also better income.
2. Since you have a good record, getting a job would not be a problem. Just need to be alert to get the opportunity.
3. Try doing something innovative.
4. Be confident and be yourself at the interviews. An attitude that is confident and progressive will usually get you more jobs.
5. Be honest. Tell them how long you would like to work but assure them of your loyalty.
Hope this helps. All the best
